Improving Safety with Security Gates
When most people think of security gates, they think of keeping criminals out of their property. This makes sense as security gates are incredibly useful at protecting your property from criminals. However, gates don’t just serve as protection against smash and grab robberies and other crimes. Security gates can also be used to improve safety at your location.
How? There are a number of ways.
Security Gates and Safety
One major way that gates improve safety can be seen at industrial sites. Slips, trips and falls cause the majority of workplace injuries. They’re also the leading cause of employees missing time at work. Security gates can be used to reduce workplace injuries.
For example, installing security gates on loading docks and locking them when the docks are not in use can drastically cut down on injuries (while also reducing crime). Gates can also be used to secure areas where slips are common, such as locations with slippery surfaces or locations that frequently get oily or greasy. By securing these areas, you alert employees to potential danger and cause them to take the time to use caution.
Using mobile-portable security gates to block off areas of a property is also helpful when dealing with hazardous substances and dangerous equipment. By locking these areas behind security gates, you only allow those who have the training and expertise needed to access these locations. This prevents other employees as well as visitors to your organization from entering these areas and potentially injuring themselves.
Security gates help reinforce good safety procedures. While your organization likely has a manual, rules and procedures regarding health and safety in the workplace, security gates serve as a physical and visual reminder of these processes. In addition to regularly reviewing policies and ensuring that all employees understand your current health and safety processes, security gates are an important part of keeping your property safe.
Protecting Against Crime Also Leads to Safety
Securing your business against crime also leads to increased safety for your employees. Unfortunately, criminals are often quite violent when they break into a property. They smash windows, break down doors and destroy property. Employees can be injured during these break-ins or by interacting with damaged property after the fact.
By installing security gates, you drastically decrease the likelihood of a criminal breaking into your property. This is because criminals look for locations that they can break into and then leave very quickly, before the authorities can arrive. When you have security gates installed at your property, criminals know that breaking in will be significantly more difficult and much more time-consuming, if a break-in is even possible. For this reason, criminals often avoid locations that have security gates installed. This means that your property will be better protected and that your staff will be much less likely to be injured in a crime.
It isn’t just your physical property that you are protecting when you install security gates. It’s also your employees and visitors.
