Resolving to Be More Secure in 2018
The end of 2017 is rapidly approaching. For a lot of people, that means making New Year’s resolutions for the coming year. This year, when you’re planning your goals, consider crafting plans to make your business more secure. Review Your Security Policies & Make Sure Everyone Knows Them
The new year is a good time to review your business security policies. Do they still reflect the reality of your business? Should anything be added or removed?
In addition to reviewing (and potentially updating) your business security policies, it’s also a good idea to make sure everyone at your company is aware of and understands your policies. Many times, security breaches occur because staff members aren’t aware of what is expected from them.
Audit Your Current Security Situation
In addition to reviewing your policies, it’s also a good idea to take a look at what you currently have. Look at your business from the outside and try to see it through the eyes of a criminal. If you wanted to break into your own property, how would you do it? If you see any flaws, get rid of them.
Compare Your Security with Others
While you’re reviewing your situation, you may want to take a look at the other businesses around you. What are they doing? How are they protecting themselves? Not only can checking out your neighbours give you some good ideas to protect yourself, but it can also help you see how a criminal may choose a target. If your business looks less secure than other nearby businesses, there’s a greater likelihood that it will be considered a target by criminals. Most of the time, criminals are looking for the weakest link and they are much more likely to strike a business that looks less secure than those around it.
Check Out New Tools
It may have been a while since you installed your current security set-up. Various factors may have changed since then and different security tools may be available now. For example, if you installed security bars on your windows many years ago, you may not have considered rolling or folding gates instead.
